A winter theme cake smash on the blog! This sweet boys birthday is December 27th. At first Mom and I thought a Lumberjack theme cake smash would be prefect for his winter birthday shortly after Christmas. As I was planning his session, and gathering props, the set up turned into a Lumberjack, Camping, Winter, with a slight bit of Christmas feel and it is absolutely perfect! It has a slight Christmas feel but not in your face Christmas. The lights feel like freshly fallen sparkling snow at twilight. As a New England girl, I vividly remember sparking snow at dusk and I wanted to somehow portray that in this set up with the addition of the lights.
This family are some familiar faces. I have done four other sessions for them to document their growing family. They have this special suitcase that they have photographed all their babies in. The suitcase is the great great grandparents of the children, so it is one old and special suitcase. For this session, we brought out the suitcase one last time, unless another baby come their way! With four wiggly boys, taking a nice portrait i a challenge. For this particular photo, I took an image of each brother with the suitcase by themselves. Then I merged all the photos together in photoshop into one. This was the only way to get a photo of all four boys together.
Next was the cake smash! I also decided to make a Birch tree cake. It was surprisingly easy to do. I used whipping cream for the frosting so that it was light and airy. Then added a bit of food coloring to make it more like a rustic birch tree. This boy was no shy guy when it came to the cake. With three big brother, he is always ready for an adventure and it shows in these photos! He has so much fun getting dirty and then splashing around in the wash basin.
Enjoy!
