I have had the joy of watching this sweet little boy grow from prayer, to womb to baby and now toddler. I can’t believe it’s been one year since he made his grand entrance into the world!
For his first birthday, Mom had planned a sweet construction theme birthday and wanted to bring this theme into his first birthday photoshoot. There were a lot of ideas on Pinterest for construction theme birthday cake smashes, but I wanted to keep it slightly simple and classy. I chose a dark grey backdrop to feel like concrete, and it is also on of my favorite backdrops to shoot on! I made the orange, yellow and white banner out of card stock paper. The two trucks were actually my little boys! (Thanks TJ for letting me borrow them.) The small trucks, mom purchased and looked so cute next to the ONE. I found the awesome metal ONE letters at Hobby Lobby and thought it would tie into the construction feel perfectly. Last, I added brown sugar to look like dirt! The brown sugar really tied in the theme, and if baby J ate it (which he did not), it would be nice an sweet!
After setting up the session in the home, i first wanted to re-create one of baby J’s newborn photos with the family dog. I just love creating side by side images showing growth. Next, we went into the cake smash portion. We started with a few shots of baby J with is tool belt…ohhh so cute! then we added the cake! At first he was not fond of the cake ( as most babies are not). He did not like getting the frosting on his hands. He would rather have someone feed him the cake! It is fun to see the different personalities with cake smashes. Some are careful smashers, others go all into it. Once baby J got used to the cake, he really dug in and we got some sweet shots. Last was the bath session. Baby J did not like this at first. I think he was confused as to why he was in water in the kitchen floor! But once we handed him a balloon, he was all good!
Thanks for reading and enjoy!
