Erika Michelle will no longer take new bookings.  If your session is currently booked, we will proceed as scheduled.

I have decided to go back to my career as a special education teacher.  Due to the demands of this position, I need to take a step back from the buisness.

Thank you for your support.

“You do not need words to communicate through photographs. With photography, you feel.”

I was born in Tennessee but grew up in the hills of western Massachusetts.  I received an Education Degree from Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York.  I also earned my masters in Literacy from the Sage Graduate School in Albany, New York. I moved down to Charlotte for my first teaching position a decade ago and I never looked back!  I’ve since met my husband and now my pride and joy are my two children Troy (TJ) and Arielle.

Going back to middle and high school when disposable cameras (remember those?) were in vogue, I can always remember having a camera in my hand.  I got my first digital point-&-shoot camera in college, and have always enjoyed experimenting with light and how to manipulate light to make a pleasing photo.

My passion for photography really started brewing as I taught special education at a lower income school in Charlotte.  I taught in a self-contained classroom for children with Autism and other various disabilities.  My favorite thing to do with my students was to create memory books using photos that I captured throughout the school year.

I remember with fondness when my students saw photos of themselves; their eyes lit up with excitement! They were so eager to work on their memory books, writing about their photos and preserving the memories.  My non-verbal students were able to communicate something through photographs that otherwise they would not have been able to.  This is when I realized the power of photography.  A photo transcends all languages and abilities.  You do not need words to communicate through photographs.  With photography, you feel.

With the birth of my children, I decided to leave my teaching position to be a stay-at-home mom.  Soon after, I purchased my first used DSLR camera and began learning as much as I could.  I didn’t know where exactly where my passion would lead me but I wanted to find out, and several years later with God’s blessing it has given me more than I could ever have imagined!  At the same time, I cannot and will never stop learning about my passion and working to improve my products to be the best they can be.

I would consider it a privilege to serve you by capturing and preserving the precious memories in your life!
